Classification of Household Vacuum Cleaners by Filtration Method

1. Bagged Vacuum Cleaner
Dust and debris are filtered through a dust bag inside the machine. Overall, using a dust bag as a filter has the advantage of easy cleaning and no need for daily maintenance, while the downside is that the dust bag needs to be replaced regularly. Disposable paper dust bags for bagged vacuums are still quite popular overseas for their convenience.
2. Dust Cup Filtration
Dust cup filtration separates debris from air via a high-speed rotating motor that generates a vacuum airflow, then purifies the air through filter materials such as HEPA to prevent secondary pollution. Its advantages include no frequent dust bag replacement and zero consumables, which avoids additional financial costs; the only drawback is the need to clean the dust cup after vacuuming. As an upgraded version of bagged filtration, dust cup filtration is the primary filtration method for vacuums, and most models on the market adopt this design.
3. 2-in-1 Dust Cup & Dust Bag
Simply put, this design combines the two filtration methods mentioned above. Reusable eco-friendly fabric dust bags or disposable paper ones are ideal for post-renovation cleaning and regular deep housecleaning—after the chore, you can just discard the bag without any cleaning. The dust cup design features lifelong zero consumables, making it perfect for daily light cleaning and reusable for repeated use.
4. Water Filtration
Water is used as the filtration medium to trap dust and microorganisms in the water, and further filtration ensures the exhausted air is cleaner than the inhaled air. The filtration effect of water filtration is unquestionable, and such vacuums are wet and dry dual-use—they can suck up common broken glass, metal nails, turbid food residue, sauces, drinks and tea, leaves, renovation dust, and other substances that ordinary vacuums struggle to handle. The only disadvantage is that water needs to be added before each use, and the machine requires cleaning after use.
